Capital Safety Announces New ANSI Z359.1 and Z359.2 Compliant Fall Protection Equipment and Training Programs

Capital Safety, home of the DBI-SALA and PROTECTA brands, has announced the availability of a new line of 2007 ANSI Z359.1 compliant fall protection equipment. The company has also introduced updated training courses that meet the new ANSI Z359.2 standard.

The revised ANSI Z359.1, “Safety Requirements for Personal Fall Arrest Systems, Subsystems and Components,” was recently published by the American National Standards Institute and will become effective in October this year. The revised standard calls for increased snap hook and carabiner gate strength on all fall protection equipment. New requirements include:

* Gate face must withstand a load of 3,600 lbs. (up from 220 lbs.);
* Side of gate must withstand a load of 3,600 lbs. (up from 350 lbs.);
* Minor axis of snap hook or carabiner, except those with captive eyes, must withstand 3,600 lbs.; and
* Tensile load must withstand 5,000 lbs. (same as current).

Capital Safety’s DBI-SALA patented snap hooks have long been the preferred hook in the industry. These user-friendly hooks have been redesigned to meet ANSI Z359.1 and are now available on all DBI-SALA lanyards and self retracting lifelines.

ANSI Z359.2, “Minimum Requirements for a Comprehensive Managed Fall Protection Program,” will also become effective in October this year. The standard calls for a fall protection program whenever one or more employees are routinely exposed to fall hazards.

ANSI Z359.2 clearly identifies the responsibility of an employer to:

* Identify, evaluate and eliminate (or control) fall hazards through planning;
* Provide proper training of employees exposed to fall hazards;
* Ensure correct installation and use of fall protection and rescue systems; and
* Implement safe fall protection and rescue procedures

Capital Safety’s new training programs will educate participants on the requirements of the new standards, and provide practical, hands-on experience. Training programs are available to meet the requirements of authorized and competent person/rescuer, program administrator, qualified person as well as inspection, climbing and trainer courses.

Capital Safety’s training courses engage the participant. By creating courses that demand active participation, the student becomes involved in the learning process increasing comprehension and retention. Capital Safety provides application and employer-specific training by providing a variety of core training programs and supplementing them with custom training.

Courses are offered on an open enrollment basis at the Capital Safety Training Institutes located in Red Wing, MN and Houston, TX.
